Hormel Taco Meat #Tacogoals

I love how the review sites I am on force me to update my blog.
I got this super fun box in the mail from influenster called a Cheers to you Vox Box, which I will post about later!

One of the things I was given in this box was a Hormel Taco meat coupon.
I was super skeptical to use it because it is precooked meat, and I am really picky when it comes to precooked meat.

I was pleasantly surprised.
It had a really good flavor and my meal literally took me 5 min to make, which was really nice!

Here was our Taco dinner recipe tonight!

(Seems a little silly to post about this since it was the
easiest and quickest meal I  have ever made haha!)

HORMEL TACOS!

Ingredients:

-Whatever toppings you like

Sweet and Spicy Baked Honey Sriracha

I have been wanting to do a recipe post for quite some time now!
My blog is going to be making so changes, so here goes hopefully everything!
My blog will consist of product reviews, recipes and of course I will still include posts about the adventurous life I live with Eric.
You will see more frequent posts from me!! Aren't you excited?
***My recipe posts will give food group suggestions!
That being said
Here goes Recipe post number 1!

Food group menu for the week:
-Creme Brule french toast
-Ham and cheese sliders
And of course my meal...

Sweet and *Spicy Baked Honey Sriracha

First of all... SPICY?? That doesn't sound like Savanna.
I know, believe me.. I have come along way!

I got this recipe off of pinterest (of course) and the blog it led me to was  http://chefsavvy.com/recipes/sweet-spicy-baked-honey-sriracha-chicken/

I made a few changes to the recipe to fit the taste of my palet.

The blog stated that the recipe would take less then 30 min.. and it wasn't kidding :)

Ingredients

*Note this recipe was prepared for 6 people, and I split it into 3 because we currently have 3 families in our food group. Whats food group? here is the link
  • 4 lbs of boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup of flour (add more as needed)
  • 2 eggs
  • Panko Bread Crumbs I bought an 8 oz box (where are these in the store? no idea, Thanks to walmart grocery pick up)
Sauce ingredients ( I just made this x3, and gave everyone their own container of sauce)
  • 1 Tbs Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • 3 Tbs Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbs Honey
  • 2 Tbs of sriracha ( yikes!! That is a lot of spice, I reduced mine to 1 Tbs and it was still burning, I felt like I had taken a bite of H*** haha, If you like spice, keep it at 2 Tbs. All power to ya!)
  • 3 Tbs of water ( I thought it was weird to add water to it because it thinned out the sauce and it was separating, so I added some corn starch and it fixed the problem)
  • 1/8 tsp crushed pepper flakes ( i didn't measure, just sprinkled, so maybe this is where the real spice came from it
If you had NONE of these ingredients in your pantry this meal would cost you $29.09, and if you are doing food group you could get four meals out of it. That's only about $7.28 a meal

You can always add more Honey to reduce the spice

  1. Pre-Heat the Oven to 400 degrees
  2. Dice the Chicken- Easy Peasy

3. Start Breading your chicken. Flour, eggs, then panko bread crumbs

4. Line chicken onto a baking sheet lined with a silicon baking mat if you have one. If you don't have a silicon baking mat you should get one, because they make for extremely easy clean up

5. Place chicken in Oven for 15 min until fully cooked and lightly brown on the outside
6. While chicken is cooking work on your sauce, cook in a small sauce pan.
Combine water and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Add oil and garlic to pan, and saute for about a min. Combine rest of ingredients to pan (soy, sriracha, honey, red peppers and the cornstarch water mixture) Once at a boil remove from stovetop, set aside

7. Take chicken out of oven and toss with sauce immediately. I literally put the the chicken in a bowl and tossed in the sauce like you would to a salad. haha and that is it!

You can serve over rice!
BTW: it is delicious!!

**** FOR FOOD GROUP:

All I did was dice the chicken (10-15 min saved), and combined the sauce ingredients..
You will need to Bread the chicken and cook in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 min as well as heat up the sauce.

Food Group {saved my life}

Food Group

When you are newly married cooking can be extremely intimidating but you do it anyway because who wants to eat out 6 days a week 3x a day? NOT ME! (and I of course love my husband!)
I remember running around from work, to school, to the grocery store, and back home just in time to finish making dinner so that I could have it on the table for Eric when he got home (he to was working full time and going to school full time.)
It became extremely exhausting and I wanted that to change.
I enjoyed cooking, but after a long day, it was one of the last things I wanted to be doing... soo... I made a change.

I had remembered something my mom and aunts did when we were little, it was called food group and here is how is worked...

  • There were four families involved; In order for it to work right, each family needed to have a similar number of people in it.
  • Each family would pick a meal they wanted to eat for the week and prepare enough for everyone in the group. For Example: If each family had 3 people in it you would need enough food for 12 people and you would split that evenly by 4. (a meal for you, and a meal for each of the families.)
  • We would then pick a day we would consistently meet each week and we would rotate houses.
  • When we were together we would simply explain what our meal was and give the instructions that were needed to finish the meal
  • and just like that we would have 4 meals that were prepared and ready to cook for the week!
Needless to say I decided I NEEDED this in my life. so I gathered a few couples and started a group of my own.
It has been such a blessing to not have to worry about dinner everyday.
I have done this every week since Feb of 2015 and it is still going strong.
It not only saves money.but it also gives us a bigger variety of meals each week, and we get to try things that we probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions about Food Group

  • Can we have more than 4 families in our group?
    • Yes you can but here is why I only have 4
    • 4 days worth of meals, one left over day, Date night, and sunday dinner
  • Should the meal be cooked all the way?
    • Depends on the meal. If you go to my recipes it will give you suggestions for how prepared the meal needs to be
  • How much do you typically spend on a meal?
    • There are only couples in our food group at the moment so we cook enough for 8 people. price varies anywhere from $10-$40 depends on ingredients I have in my pantry.  We try to make a variation of things. (Occasionally steak is provided... because we love the men in our lives.) The better the meals are the more successful your food group will be . Spaghetti every week just isn't acceptable. I used this as an example to my gtoup when we were first starting (as a joke) and spaghetti has yet to shown up in the whole year I have been doing this. I like spaghetti...
  • Do I provide sides for everyone?
    • Typically you do not provide sides for everyone. If it is something that would be good with rice, I usually will include uncooked rice.
  • What do you trade meals in every week?
    • I had each person buy 11 cup pyrex containers with lids from walmart so that if we made a casserole it was all ready to be put straight in the oven. As well as it is way more cost effective then having to buy throw away containers each week. Also, if someone decides to leave the group you don't have to try to track down all of your containers because you all the same containers.

IF YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK IN
THE COMMENTS OR BY EMAILING ME!

People in the group have come and gone as they pleased so we often need a spot filled, you can always check if the spot needs to be filled by contacting me at my email (ssbbww@gmail.com) or on facebook. If you create a food group of your own, I would love to hear about it and the ways that it has blessed your life and if you do anything different then what I have stated.

HAPPY COOKING!:)

Stay tuned for food group recipes!

P.S the other thing that saved my life was Walmart Grocery Pick up!
If you haven't tried it, you should because it is incredible. You order your groceries online (you have to do it the day before), schedule a pick up time, and then go to the store at your pick up time (they will even call you to remind you!), call them when you are on your way, park in the designated parking spot, and then they will bring your groceries straight to your car!! How fantastic is that?? I pick up my groceries right after work and it takes 5 min of my time!!

The Man without a "Wedding Garment"

I love the story of the man without a "wedding garment"  found in Matthew chapter 22. In the story, the king is marrying off his Son and so they invite people from near and far.  For an occasion such as this it would be appropriate for people to wear white robes. In fact, the apparel that someone would wear showed the kind of respect they had for the host. Often times a host would supply his guests with the appropriate attire for different reasons. So in this situation the king provided clothing for all of his guests. There was one man who chose not accept the kings clothing, because he felt that his appearance was good enough. Therefore he was not permitted to stay. Some might think this was rude, or inconsiderate of the king. Just like there were requirements for people to be allowed to enter the ceremony, there are requirements to be able to enter into the Kingdom of God. Everyone is invited to come to the kingdom of God, but you have to be willing to accept the requirements. There are a lot of places of businesses that have signs up that say "no shoes, no shirt, no business." Everyone is invited in, but if you aren't wearing any shoes or a shirt they have a right to ask you to leave because you aren't following the requirements they asked you to make in order to be able to enter. The world asks more often then not "what is so 'secret' about the Mormon Temple? If you are so inviting why can't everyone enter at any given time?"
The answer: It is not secret it is sacred. Everyone is invited to enter you just have to be willing to live the requirements that are given to be able to do so. We even wear special clothing in the temple that symbolizes clothing ourselves in covenants, righteousness, and purity in preparation for entering into God’s presence. Choosing not to wear the apparel they ask us to wear is mocking our covenants we have made, rebelling and pretty much admitting to being unclean.  The Lord will always accept those who follow him willingly and correctly.

Get to Know Him. Recognize Him.

We are reading in the new testament so tonight we read Matthew 21 and it has like 3 parables in it but I wanted to focus on the part that wasn't a parable because it always gets skipped over. In the beginning It talks about Jesus coming into Jerusalem on a donkey and I can't help but wonder what it will be like to have Christ come. How did those people feel when they saw him? Israelite Royalty traditionally came into town on a donkey and so it was prophesied that the people would know it was Christ when he came, and they did. Think of 3 famous/notorious people and imagine them walking into the same room as you are in. How would your reaction be different between the 3 of them? If my favorite actress walked into the room I would probably be thrilled, and exited because I have seen her movies I read about her in magazines and I follow her on Instagram and facebook so I would feel like I know her. I would recognize her instantaneously. If Christ walked into the room would you feel like you knew him? Would you be able to recognize him? Would you feel like you had a connection with him or that you could walk up to him and talk to him and that he would embrace you? I want to feel like that when Christ comes. I want to know that I did my best and that I have come to know him. I want to be able to recognize him so that I can say with an honest heart That I love him and that I know him. I am so grateful for Christ and all that he has suffered for us. This week I will Strive to recognize Christ more in my life and thank him for the things I don't normally thank him for. Just like all those celebrities, He is all around us, he is in the news, he is in our friends, and he is in our minds. We just have to take an extra moment each day to recognize him and get to know him, and to "stalk" him per say. I want to be able to recognize him more then I would be able to recognize any celebrity because he is sooo much more important and he brings positivity and true life to this wicked world in which we live. What are some ways that you can give praise to Christ even though he isn't physically here?

Always an Adventure

My life with Eric is always an adventure... in the best way!! I love my life. I feel so blessed everyday for the fun that we have and for the fun friends and family we have. Our most recent adventure was to Rocky Point Mexico! Most inexpensive vacation ever, and so many memories.
When I was younger we would go to Mexico every year during spring break and I have very fond memories of it, so I was ecstatic to share this fun place with Eric.
This was Eric's first time in Mexico, so it is certainly one for the books.
Not to mention, we saw more wild sea life than I think I have in my entire life and we didn't even get in the water that often.
Mexico had it's lowest tide of the year while we were there, which was absolutely incredible because we were able to see all these cool animals.
The water was beautiful and the temperature was just about the same as Arizona swimming pool water.
Yeah... that's how warm it was there.
It was such a fun trip though.
Baby Sting Ray!
It was so cute, I almost wanted to take it home.

Little baby octopus. Coolest thing ever!

Too scared to hold the stinking crab by myself. As soon as i went to grab it, it tried to pinch us
